A Home for Digital Media: From Design to Reality
I had the privilege of designing a new DT Studio at the Edmonton Islamic Academy.
This is the STEAM Makerspace, a multidisciplinary creative space where students are in charge of the projects they want to undertake, guided by expert-teachers: from thinking in complex systems by building robots and making architectural models to getting one's opinion out there in the public by creating podcasts and vlogs.
The small desire to have a design and technology lab grew into this large vision of a makerspace based on the principles of combining the STEAM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math).
I was one of the main designers of the space and designed some of the specific parts as well (such as these black computer tables). I made these visuals in SketchUp. Much credit and gratitude goes towards Dr. Meredith Hardbord for her expertise and consulting services during the initial stages of this project. Much credit also goes to the EIA Board of Governors for attracting a major sponsor and the EIA Administration for initiating and supporting this project.
